Scutellaria is a group of flowering plants within the mint family, Lamiaceae. Commonly referred to as skullcaps, these plants are characterized by their square stems and leaves arranged in pairs. The blooms feature distinct upper and lower lip formations. The genus is most readily identified by the characteristic shield-like structure on the calyx, which is the origin of its popular name.
